Common Coverages

Uninsured Watercraft and Medical Payments

If you’re involved in an accident with an uninsured or underinsured motorist, this coverage will protect you from costly medical or boat payments. If you are involved in an accident with someone who doesn’t have any or enough liability coverage, or one whose insurance can’t cover your medical bills, know that you can rely on this coverage.

Emergency Services

This coverage will help take some of the pressure off of you in a stressful situation. Emergency services will cover you for the cost of on water towing, labor, and fuel or oil delivery. If your boat stalls out on the water, this will also help provide you will a loaned battery.

For most of us boaters, insurance is something you have, and pray you never need. But when you need it, you really need it and unfortunately some boaters soon discover all the subtle differences between the boat policy that you have and the policy you thought you had!

Loan/Lease gap coverage

What sets us apart are things like Loan gap coverage for you. If you have a loan on your boat, Loan gap coverage allows you to pay off your boat in case of a total loss, giving you peace of mind.

Your boat owner’s insurance policy will insure you against most risks of owning and operating your boat, your boat motor, and your boat trailer, if you have one. For worry free boating, your boat insurance coverage needs to include coverage for risks like sinking, fire, storm damage, theft, capsizing, stranding, collision or explosion. Gordon Tower Insurance will ensure your boat insurance policy includes standard equipment that is permanently attached to your boat, and items including your anchor, oars, electric trolling motors, extra fuel tanks, tools, camper top or canvas mooring covers, seat cushions, life saving devices and life vest, skis and ski lines and dinghies. Your boat insurance also protects you against possible liability lawsuits, should you injure someone with your boat or damage their property. Your policy also covers Boat medical payments for medical expenses up to the limits in the policy you determine, your resident relatives, and other guest on your boat injured in a possible accident arising out of the ownership, maintenance, or use of your watercraft.

Quick and Reliable Claims Service

We work with excellent insurance carriers, like Grange. Grange Insurance claims service is excellent as we can tell you first hand when our boat Cool Runnins III hit a gigantic dead head outside the break wall near our boat club, FCYC several years ago. We called Grange claims and were amazed by the thoroughness of Grange’s claims process – from the adjuster who came to FCYC to assess the damage, and unfortunately, some serious damage was sustained, to how smooth the entire process went for us. Grange has an extensive field claims staff and they got right on it. So if you ever have a claim, an adjuster can be there quickly. Their handling of a potentially very stressful situation made for a comforting and pleasant experience with no delays and was a real relief to us. They didn’t just fix the initial damage discovered, but all of it, when more extensive damage was also revealed. I know that all insurance companies aren’t as thorough. Grange’s 24 hour loss reporting service ensures quick responses to your call and they are there when you need them most. It was a great relief to have Grange by our side!

We have great discounts for you to take advantage of such as loss-free, safety course completion (just send us a copy of your boating safety course completion certificate), and of course, your multi-policy discount when you choose us for all of your insurance needs.

What can I do to help protect my boat?

First of all, with lower Lake Erie levels the last four years, always know the depth of the water you are navigating through. Avoid shallow waters, as well as waters with obstructions like trees, rocks, and low bridges. Operate at a safe speed and slow down when entering and exiting unfamiliar waters. Always maintain a careful outlook. Overall, operator inattention, careless and reckless inexperience, and excessive speed are significant contributing factors in nearly all reported accidents. Use your boat gps for navigating around shoals and other obstacles that you may not be able to see. Be aware of changing conditions, especially rivers and harbors that can change daily with heavy rains, drought, or harbor surges. The U.S. Coast Guard recommends you always tell a friend or family member exactly where you plan to go and when you plan to return.

Is boat insurance required by law?

Many states require boaters to carry liability insurance. Some marinas will require you to have insurance to dock your boat there. Also, if you have a loan on your boat, the lender may require proof of insurance before they approve the loan.

Just like car and home insurance, it is important to have the correct coverage in case an accident occurs. Ease your mind while you are on the open water and let us focus on your insurance.

If you’re not sure where to start, feel free to give us a call at 216/663-7777 for a free boat quote.
